I'll try to find some pics from other years, managed to forget the SD cards this time
Although, it was not a good event for us anyway, so the fewer records the better! haha
The 7 hour drive there had a 9 hour stopover just under half way, with our tow vehicle suffering various fuel issues. A new fuel pump, new fuel lines and a lot of effort later we were back underway, but limping.
Arriving after 1am at the dunes, we missed the normal scrutineering checks, and had lost all the time we expected to have to make final preparations to the race car. 4 and 1/2 hours later we were awake again, and the officials were gracious in getting our paperwork and safety checks done in the morning, before the race started at 10am.
This year was a small turnout, with only 19 entrants, and soon enough we were all lined abreast on the sand. We had a poor start, with a mystery engine issue leaving us with about 50% power. We limped around one lap, and somehow managed to pass one running vehicle, before we came into the pit area, with both the engine and transmission overheating. That was the end of the first heat for us.
In our downtime we adjusted the engine tuning to try and extract a bit more power. However, when the time came to line up for the second heat, both our starter motor and alternator had decided to retire early, leaving us were unable to continue.
And so ended our Portland adventure, however it was not all bad news. It was the first event for our race car, and while there are clearly engine issues to be fixed, the car itself proved capable, and handled well. Once we have some more (reliable) horsepower, we should be set!
